Understanding how sentences are put together will help us avoid making some basic mistakes in our writing.
The first few exercises are an opportunity for you to practice identifying sentence types. We have identified three types so far: simple, compound, and complex. There is one more type of sentence that you should be familiar with. It is called a compound-complex sentence. Very simply, this type of sentence has at least two independent clauses (compound) and at least one dependent clause (complex). Click here to review the four sentence types.
